Mariana Oushiro - Supernova - 2021
From 26 March to 30 April 2022, Vito Schnabel Gallery in New York presents "Supernova", an exhibition of works by Brazilian-born, New York-based artist Mariana Oushiro.

The exhibition, the artist's first solo show, takes its name from a monumental canvas painted last year by Oushiro, which is shown in the exhibition alongside other recent works, like "Revolutions per minute" (2022) "Singularity" (2022) and "Speaking of a spirit on fire" (2022). According to the gallery, "Supernova", "subtly tinged with burnt umber that suggests the afterglow of such a cosmic event, (…) is striking in its evocation of both perceptual and emotional phenomena".
No painting, no work of art is fully appreciable until it is seen live. The writer of this article has not had the opportunity to do so with "Supernova", but he cannot help but imagine what it must be like to be in front of this painting, already striking in photographs and colossal in scale. Mariana Oushiro was born in São Gotardo, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1992, and studied in São Paulo before moving to New York, where she completed her studies at the Art Students League of New York. A selection of her works can be viewed online at the Vito Schnabel Gallery website.
