Fayez S. Sarofim Collection: Three Centuries of American Art at MFA Houston

From June 27 through September 6, 2021, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, presents one of the most important collections of American art in private hands, the one belonging to Houston collector and philanthropist Fayez S. Sarofim

The exhibition, titled "Three Centuries of American Art – Antiquities, European and American Masterpieces from The Fayez S. Sarofim Collection", includes a wide array of works that illustrate the evolution of American art.
The highlights of the exhibition include important works from the American Impressionism and the Ashcan School, with artists like Mary Cassatt, John Singleton Copley ("Portrait of Sir Edward Knatchbull"), Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Winslow Homer, and John Singer Sargent ("Portrait of Madame Ramón Subercaseaux"). The American modernism of Stuart Davis, Marsden Hartley, and Georgia O’Keeffe is also represented in the collection.
There are also important examples of modern and contemporary art, with works by Jasper Johns, Willem de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, and Robert Rauschenberg, among others.
In addition to these American artworks, the Fayez S. Sarofim Collection also includes works by non-American modern masters like Pablo Picasso or Henry Moore, old masters like El Greco or Lucas Cranach, Egyptian antiquities and Native American Art.
