Regardless of current attempts to rewrite history, our country was founded on Biblical Christian principles. However, there have always been two distinct political parties, differentiated on the question of states rights (Republican Party) vs. federal control (Democratic Party). To some degree, these differences remain in play, though much has been added to the disparity between these groups and their various sub-factions. The conflict can, and often has been, part of the strength of our nation. A form of checks & balances which has forced compromise as a basis for measured progress. 
Over the last decade or so, these competing forces have become fractionalized (as has our country in general). Stalemates and infighting have taken the place of compromise. Bruit force legislation has become more the norm. Whether it be the establishment of Supreme Court Justices or a pending Infrastructure Bill, political parties are finding it easier to go it alone rather than working toward a bipartisan approach to legislation. If the Senate filibuster is ever repealed likely all bipartisan negotiations will be severely curtailed.
As Biblical Christians, we need to be aware of the realities of this negative trend within our government. It creates a climate of "the ends justify the means" which promotes political rhetoric over facts, the most recent being the rush to judgment regarding the whipping of Haitian's at the border. These breaking news reports are then amplified by the media in an attempt to stem the loss of viewership from competing outlets.
In many ways, Christians are becoming more and more sheep among wolves (Matt.10:16-18). As we navigate the world around us, we need to be wise to the environment we live in and resist being caught up in the cycles of negative news. Our God is all-powerful and all-sufficient and we have His protection and His love as we face the world around us and prepare for true citizenship in Heaven. Our focus should not be on the events of this world (Phil. 3:20), but on seeking opportunities to tell the lost about the next (Matt. 9:37-38).
