'Apollo 11,' 'Honeyland,' and 'American Factory' Among PGA Documentary Nominations

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced its nominees for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Pictures.
"Apollo 11," Todd Douglas Miller's critically favored documentation of the 1969 moon landing, is among the nominees for the PGA Documentary Awards. The technicalities of Miller's venture into the moon mission archives poses the film as a huge contender at the awards ceremony. On top of its editing and sound, "Apollo 11" had the carpet rolled out for it when it allowed audiences to see it in IMAX screenings ahead of its wider release output.

"Honeyland"

Sundance award-winning "Honeyland" made a splash appearing in the nominations. Tamara Kotevska's story of the last female bee-hunter in Europe debuted in Park City, where it secured three total wins for Best World Cinema Cinematography, Best World Cinema Documentary and the Impact and Change Special Jury Award.
Another Utah premiere from this year to make the PGA cut, the impacting "One Child Nation," directed by Nanfu Wang and Jialing Zhang. It won the Sundance Documentary Grand Jury Prize and is also nominated for two Gotham Awards.
Other titles include the Cannes Film Festival Golden Eye winner, "For Sama," from directors Waad Al-Khateab and Edward Watts, "The Cave," from Feras Fayyad, and the Sundance premiering "Advocate," from directors Rachel Leah Jones and Phillipe Bellaïche earlier this year.

"One Child Nation"

All of this year's PGA Documentary Awards nominations are also included as part of the 159 documentary features submitted for the Academy Awards. All but "The Cave" are also finalists up for the International Documentary Association’s top award, to be announced Dec. 7.
Below are the PGA Documentary Awards nominees. The feature winner will be announced on Jan. 18 at the 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards at the Hollywood Palladium.
