Amanda Seyfried Joins David Fincher's 'Mank' For Netflix

Amanda Seyfried is the latest star to be joining Gary Oldman in David Fincher's "Mank" for Netflix. Seyfried boards the project, which is a biopic on "Citizen Kane" screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz. Oldman will be starring in the titular role. Variety reported the casting Tuesday afternoon.
From the Variety article:
Specific plot details are vague, but sources say the story will follow Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of the script for “Citizen Kane” — which would go on to be considered one of the best films of all time — alongside director Orson Welles.
The script was written by Fincher's own father, who penned the story prior to his passing. The writing itself of the critically acclaimed "Citizen Kane" was the film's lone Oscar win. Orson Welles' famous feature was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Cinematography, among other categories.

Mankiewicz was head of Paramount's screenwriting branch for some time in the span of the late '20s and early '30s. His other written credits include "It's a Wonderful Life," "Avalanche," and the Oscar-winning "The Pride of the Yankees."
Seyfried was recently seen in “The Art of Racing in the Rain” opposite "This Is Us" star Milo Ventimiglia. Some of her best known roles came with "Mean Girls," "Mamma Mia," "Mamma Mia Here We Go Again!," "Dear John" and Tom Hooper's Oscar-winning adaptation of "Les Misérables." A recent dramatic performance came with her role in Paul Schrader's "First Reformed."

"Mank" is Fincher's first feature project since Fox Searchlight's cold drama, "Gone Girl." The director has kept busy with projects under Netflix. He has directed and produced episodes of "House of Cards,” “Mindhunter” and “Love, Death & Robots,” under the streaming platform.
Also in the cast of "Mank" are Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton, Toby Leonard Moore, Tom Burke, and Tom Pelphrey.
"Mank" will be produced and distributed by Netflix. The release date is set for sometime in 2020.
