Allison Janney Could Join Hugh Jackman in Getting Some 'Bad Education'

Whenever a character actor or actress when an Oscar, it's always fascinating to see what direction their career takes. Do they get bigger opportunities? More opportunities? Both? If nothing else, it's always a pleasure to see them finally recognized alongside high profile names. Well, in the case of Allison Janney, we're going to be finding out what the next act of her career is like. The recent Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress has already signed on for one role opposite Jim Gaffigan, but now she might be taking on another one. This part, if it comes together, could be a whole lot of fun too.

According to Deadline, Janney is negotiating to co-star with Hugh Jackman in "Bad Education." This film marks the followup to "Thoroughbreds" for director Cory Finley. Written by Mike Makowsky, it sounds like a black comedy about shenanigans going on at a high school. If it comes together as planned, this group could certainly put out something really on point. Jackman and Janney paired up for anything would do the trick, so being directed by a hot indie filmmaker is like a bonus.

Here are some details from the piece:

Allison Janney is in talks to join Hugh Jackman in Automatik’s Bad Education, a feature based on a true story from I Think We’re Alone Now screenwriter Mike Makowsky and director Cory Finley (Thoroughbreds). The story, which is said to be based on Makowsky’s own high school experience, follows a superintendent of the school district who works for the betterment of the student’s education while embezzling public funds to live the life he wants.

Jackman is attached to play the superintendent while Janney portrays the school district business manager who is in on the scheme and enjoying the same living large lifestyle while helping him (and her) to cover their tracks.

Assuming her schedule works out, this sounds like a role right up Janney's alley. Stay tuned to see if she officially signs on, and how "Bad Education" ultimately turns out.
