Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has targeted PM Narendra Modi and the Election Commission for holding big rallies during the West Bengal Assembly election in the Corona pandemic.
He said that Prime Minister Modi and senior BJP leaders have put the lives of lakhs of people in danger by holding big rallies. For this, action should be taken against them under the Disaster Act.
Along with this, Abhishek Banerjee also raised questions on the Election Commission and said that, at a time when people were dying due to the second wave of Corona pandemic in the whole country, under whose pressure the Election Commission was forced to conduct elections in eight phases?
Trinamool MP made this statement referring to the 'show cause' notice sent by the Centre to former West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay after visiting the cyclone-hit areas of South 24 Parganas district. Bandopadhyay did not attend the meeting called by the Prime Minister. A notice has been sent to him under the Disaster Management Act.
Banerjee said, "If Alapan Bandopadhyay, who was heading several task forces involved in COVID management and rehabilitation of cyclone-affected people, has been issued a notice under the Disaster Management Act, then why not this law for the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. This should be imposed on holding big rallies and endangering people's lives when the cases against covid increase.
He said, "Recall that the Prime Minister said in an election meeting that he was very happy to see such a crowd. When he said this, the cases of covid-19 were increasing.
