Air National Guard C-130 Hercules transport Crashes
A C-130 Hercules transport aircraft from the Air National Guard 165th Airlift Wing crashed near Savannah, Ga., Wednesday, the Savannah Morning News reported.

Emergency crews are responding to the incident, which occurred near Gulfstream Road and Highway 21 in Port Wentworth. The type of aircraft and the crash was confirmed by the Savannah Professional Firefighters Association, according to KSLA News 12. It was bound for Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, according to Fox News.

Roads surrounding the scene have been closed and the public is advised to stay away from the area as large plumes of smoke are being released from the crashed plane. It is not yet known what kind of cargo the plane was carrying or the path on which the flight was travelling at the time.

The status of the five people aboard the plane wasn't immediately clear.

The US Air National Guard C-130 plane crashed shortly after take off at 11 am ET. That type of aircraft normally carries a crew of five, but can operate with as few as three.
