Philip Bump Washington Post's Deplorable Liar
In Order To Lie About Trump Philip Bump Fabricated Air Force One's Per Hour Cost
During BluePillSheep.com investigation into a fraudulent Trump Golf hating website called TrumpGolfCount.com, we also exposed the dishonesty of The Washington Post's reporter Philip Bump.

The Trump Golf Counter website relied heavily on Philip Bump's falsified Air Force One cost per hour figure of $514,000. Bump's unabashedly erroneous reporting makes it clear his only goal was to collect a paycheck, while spreading inaccurate information about how much Donald Trump's use of Air Force One was supposedly costing the American Taxpayers.

TrumpGolfCount.com using Philip Bump's fraudulent figure asserted that Trump's frequent use of Air Force One to travel to play Golf in Florida and New Jersey had cost taxpayers $92 Million Dollars.  While lacking any proof except for "Their Firm Belief" they also claimed that since President Trump plays so much golf he is also guilty of being lazy.

Since TrumpGolfCount.com does not cite one example, nor present any witness testimony to back their claim, we dismiss their rhetoric about Trump's work ethic as partisan hyperbole.

As for credibility, that became clearly evident soon enough. After we visited the site the first time on 12/26, we were greeted by their front page stating:
TRUMP GOLF COUNT: 81
Cost to Taxpayer: At least $92,xxx,xxx
Amazingly, just mere moments after we informed the owner, Sophia Germain of our investigation, did they magically discover a $60 Million Dollar accounting error? Going back to their site, just a few hours later the front page now stated:
TRUMP GOLF COUNT: 82*
Cost to Taxpayer: At least $42,465,519**
Ms. Germain also posted this notice
Eagle-eyed visitors returning to the TrumpGolfCount website will probably notice that there has been a dramatic drop in the “Cost to taxpayers” estimate displayed on the front page (from $92 million to $42 million). This is especially embarrassing, since the higher cost had been shared widely online, and even quoted by the mainstream media. Ugh. Admitting you’re wrong is not fun!

TrumpGolfCount revolves around one number and one number only, $514,000.
This $514,000 thousand Dollar figure is what Ms. Germain considers the cost for each hour Air Force One is flying.  So where did they get this number? On their FAQ page Ms. Germain explained how:
Our total estimated cost currently includes three components: Cost of flights to Mar a Lago in and Bedminster, New Jersey, using Philip Bump’s estimate of $514,000 per hour of flight time.

False Air Force One Cost
During our investigation, we also discovered a PolitiFact story concerning Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. complaint about President Trump's use of Air Force One to fly to Mar a Largo.



McCaskill was claiming that "A trip to Mar-a-Lago costs taxpayers approximately $3.6 million, according to a Government Accountability Office report." That charge was dismissed and found to be "False" by PolitiFact.com

 

If TrumpGolfCount.com or Senator McCaskill had done even the minimalist amount of research they would have seen that the $3.6 Million dollar figure was based on a 2013 President Obama trip to Palm Beach. But the report completed in 2016 by the GAO specifically states not to use the 2013 Obama trip cost of $3.6 million for any of President Trumps Air Force One trips to Mar a Lago.

It would be nice if Democrats weren't so blatantly obvious in trying to push their agenda. How pathetic was it to use this Air Force One $514,000 dollar per hour cost?
If you Google "How much does it cost to fly Air Force One per hour?"
You'll receive over 120 results with costs ranging from around $177,000 to $228,000. The majority listed the cost to fly Air Force One at either $200,000 or $206,000 per hour.
But if we used Google and searched for "Air Force One $514,000 per hour." Google lists five results... FIVE!

Philip Bump wrote a Washington Post article on March 16, 2017, entitled How much is Donald Trump’s travel and protection costing, anyway? In that article Bump selectively used information from the GAO report, sprinkle in a little creative arithmetic and come up with his deceitful Air Force One $514,000 cost per hour figure.

At the center of it all is a GAO report on a 2013 Obama Golfing Trip To Palm Beach, Florida. Below is an overview of the timeline.

In Early 2013 President Obama took a weekend golf trip to Palm Beach, Florida
Instead of just going from Washington Top Palm Beach, Obama swung by Chicago for a few hours.
Months later the tremendous cost started leaking out about this one particular trip. (The side trip to Chicago inflated the overall trips cost when compared to a straight point A to Point B trip.
Judicial Watch was joined by a few Left-Wing watchdog groups concerned about the mounting costs of Obama’s trips. They asked Congress for some answers.
Sen. John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican, asked the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to look into and issue a report on the 2013 Obama trip.
The GOA report was completed in the fall of 2016 and released.

Politico, CBS and later CNN all cited this 2016 report, and it's 3.6 Million Dollar expense when placing a price tag on how much it cost taxpayers when President Trump flew to Florida.

This prompted the author of that GAO report, Brian Lepore, to say 'The $3.6 million dollar figure should not be applied to Trump's travel.'
Philip Bump @pbump nevertheless Ignored Lepore's statement and dishonesty used the $3.6 Million in his Washington Post article:
If we assume, just for the sake of an estimate, that the full cost of the 2013 trip can be allocated by hour of overall flight time — since the trips themselves were about the same length, one weekend, and since air support costs ate up most of the bill — we get an estimate of about $514,000 an hour.

 

($3.6 million divided by 3½ hours to and from Chicago and four hours to and from Palm Beach).

 

A five-hour trip to Palm Beach, then, would be about $2 million — $514,000 times four hours.

Philip Bump blatantly lied 
Philip Bump already knew using this dollar figure would be dishonest. How could we know this?  Two reasons.

The first reason was the fact that Obama made a side trip to Chicago and as we explain later in this story, that dramatically increased the overall cost.

The second reason is the same Philip Bump that put forth the $514,000 dollar amount, wrote another Washington Post article on Air Force One. In that article published on July 5, 2016, entitled Air Force One is a heck of an expensive perk — for taxpayers, Phillip Bump wrote this:
Because we are talking about Air Force One. Trips on the president’s plane cost about $200,000 an hour, according to CNN, although the primary passenger gets his rides comped.
Not only did Philip Bump write that Air Force One cost per hour was $200,00, he used multiple sources in his article that reaffirmed that Bump's $200,000 figure was 'in the ballpark.'  Below are the links from his story:

CNBC: "Air Force One costs $206,337 an hour to operate."
CNN: "Cost is per hour for Air Force One is $200,000 Thousand."
New York Times: "Expenses are not limited to Air Force One, which costs $179,750 an hour..." for “
Politico: "The cost of flying Air Force One is more than $200,000 per flying hour"
Washington Post: an additional WaPo story stating "Air Force One, which costs an estimated $200,000 an hour to fly"

The only differences between the two stories was The Dollar Amount and The Person.

The 2016 story stating the cost was $200,000 was about President Obama.
The 2017 story stating the cost was $514,000 was about President Trump.

 
Obama 2013 Palm Beach Trip
The fact is the GOA did a horrible job in creating and then presenting this report to Congress.  The major problem was figuring out the additional support needed due to the fact that Obama made a side trip to Chicago for a few hours.

This little side trip meant additional planes were uses, equipment relocated, and additional men and logistical support were needed to safeguard the President.

On the map located below, you can get a sense of how much movement actually took place when Obama made his little side trip.

On any normal trip to Palm Beach Florida, you would see a map with a few point 'A' to point 'B'  lines indicating a typical Air Force One flight  to and from Washington DC and Palm Beach, Florida

The 2013 Obama trip was nothing of the sort and now made that point 'A' to point 'B' map seem more like it was showing various weather patterns of the eastern United States.

Obama was only in Chicago for a few hours, but costs pile up because each destination triggers the need for the Secret Service to prepare and protect the site and the Defense Department to move the equipment involved.

All this movement of men and equipment dramatically increased the cost and it is for this very reason, the author of that GAO report, Brian Lepore, said:
"... that figure shouldn't be applied to Trump's travel."

 

Lepore  also said: "It's hard to substitute one trip for another, even if the destination is the same,"
