Decoding and Rating the Lyrics(DRL): Big G Baba - Solution Dey

Decoding and Rating the Lyrics(DRL): Big G Baba - Solution Dey
Hey there CB Readers! Hope y'all are kicking healthily strong. One of the many challenges the 237 music industry is facing nowadays is her inability to produce artists with lyrical strength that can pierce the heart of time. With most artists focusing on the money, the value of music is gradually fading. Perusing the archives of 237's musical stratosphere, one can't help but reminisce about the wonders of ancient tracks like 'Trouver la Vie, Pourquoi Papa a taper mama, Associe, Rosi Muna, Sous Prefect, Lettre a James, Tamanjong, C'est la vie, juventus, etc.' At CB, we thought it wise to calling the young generation of stakeholders to question by decoding and rating their lyrics so as to initiate the rebirth of some kind of sense of value and purpose. We therefore, welcome you to our Decoding and Rating the lyrics series. Here, we shall be rating lyrics based on the following:

The use of Literary Devices.
Inspiration.
Delivery.
Message.

At the end of the rating, we shall decode the message. This is the first edition of the #DRL and I am so excited to start with "Solution Dey" by Big G Baba.

Allusion: This refers to the incidental mention of something, either directly or indirectly. Big G Baba proved he is the master of allusion as he rightly referred to Lucky Dube, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson's respective solutions to fame which added context and depth in his overall "Solution Dey" storyline. "The level for banga Bob Marley and Lucky Dube dem smoke to shine, if they rap the bom give you, you go fit handleam?" The kinna injections Michael Jackson chuckam for become a star, if they tell you Mola, you go fit chuckam?
Diction: refers to the style of speaking or writing as dependent upon choice of words. His choice of words in certain lines have both denotative and connotative meanings! With his denotations, he literally paints and portrays to us a solution: "Inside this bank saves them dey, inside the saves, the money e dey and for that save, code e dey. For enter go dey, gate e dey, inside that gate security dey and they carry AK47." The connotative and denotative meanings of the above lines are easily understood: We all need money and in banks, there's lot of it saved and coded top of very tight security; to have the money, you got to gut up and embrace the negative virtue of stealing.
Metaphor: in simple terms, this refers to comparing two things without the use of like or as. "Na billion dem that inside tiger e mop, who fit go takam?" In the following, he compares the bank to a tiger. The tight security in the bank makes it a risky business of rubbing it; as risky as putting ones hand into the mouth of a tiger. Hence, to be able to get money out of such institutions illegally, one has to be ready to pay the price.

On his use of literally devices, I rate him 9/10

Big G Baba has proven time without number to be original and his lyrics are based on realities and daily happenings in our community and society. He draws his inspiration from his huge experiences and paints a vivid story for everyone to easily relate to.

On inspiration, I rate the lyrics 10/10

His mastery and delivery on the beat was so on point! On delivery, I rate him 8/10

The overall message in plain  reiterates the importance of taking calculated risks in every one of life's ventures, but the esoteric meaning at large, speaks of hidden secrets known only to a few successful artists. Since it's a good thing to undertake calculated risks, I rate the message thereof on 10/10.

Now on to decoding the esoteric meaning of the lyrics, it will be worthwhile to start by first taking a deeper look at the cover art. On the cover art, we find a Big G Baba with one eye covered using a black piece of cloth. Could Big G be depicting the all seeing eye of Horus? If the answer to the above question is yes, then we can say, "Solution Dey". The all seeing eye has been attributed to the success story of top musicians worldwide. As a musician, is Big G Baba telling us subtly that his solution was to finally hug the transformer?

There's always a solution to every problem. However, the biggest problem in the face of a minor problem is being able and ready to take the risk. The Skull & Bones, Rockefeller, Rothschild, Freemason, Illuminati, etc. are very much present at the center of  world science, finance, politics and entertainment. In some twisted interwoven logic, the all seeing eye of Horus and Ra represent protection, royal power and good health. Therefore, if "solution dey" is trying to tell us something inline with these beliefs, then lets look forward to seeing a different Big G Baba in a giffy. Stay tuned for our next issue of #DRL
