Funk Frequency Resurrects Prince For Windsor Fans

Things got a bit funky at Rockstar Music Hall on Sept. 22. The highly energized band Funk Frequency visited to Windsor for a return engagement of Prince and the Minneapolis sound.

The band separated their show into two distinctly different sets. The opening set with Play 6 was a tribute to the Minneapolis sound with performances of The Time, Sheila E. and Vanity 6 among others, while the closing set concentrated more on Prince.

Lead vocalist Chris Rouse did a great job of capturing Prince’s true essence and sound and decided to go with a Purple Rain type of look for the performance. That’s the iconic image we all remember. The only thing the band wasn’t able to capture was Prince’s immaculate guitar playing – that man could solo for hours in a sexual frenzy like none other, but they did truly capture Prince and The Revolution’s early era sound, look and vibe to a tee.

With big hits like Little Red Corvette, I Would Die 4 U, Kiss, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry and Let’s Go Crazy, it’s hard to have a bad show. Meanwhile tunes like Controversy and Housequake gave the die-hard’s some tunes from deep within the Prince catalog.

These guys are a great band to see live. Rouse is an amazing replication of Prince and Jenna O just oozes sexuality. Combine that with some funky skill, a little choreographed shake and some amazing music and you’ve got Fun Frequency. Let’s hope they return to the 519 soon.
