Korda Bringing 5-Time Tony Award Winning Musical 'Fun Home' to Windsor
Korda is bringing a five-time Tony Award winning musical to Windsor. Fun Home runs from August 31 to September 16 at the Kordazone Theatre.

In 2006, Alison Bechdel became critically acclaimed for her graphic novel and memoir “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic.”  It's based off of Alison’s upbringing in rural Pennsylvania and in the novel she talks about what it was like growing up, coming to terms with her sexuality and family relationships.

The popularity of the graphic novel eventually became adapted into a Broadway musical by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori. Fun Home took control of the musical world with its catchy songs, and relatable story. Fun Home has won multiple Tony awards such as; Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.

When you hear the name “Bechdel” it might sound familiar to you. You may know it as “The Bechdel Rule” or “Mo Movie Measure.” “It is a test on how well media deals with the portrayal of women.” says actor Drew Beaudoin, “The way something passes it is by having two named women have a conversation that isn’t about a man. Many things still do not pass the test.” With that being said, Fun Home made history for being the first all-female writing team!

As a Windsor, Ontario premier, Korda Artistic Production stages Fun Home as part of their 2018 lineup with an all star cast. Directed by David Burrows and Musical Direction by Sam Poole. The two of the them also worked together on Company that played at Korda this past March.

“Everyone can have some sort of connection with the show, even if they don’t realize it.” Said cast member Jessie Gurniak, who is playing the role of Joan. “It explores her relationship with her family and with her dad in particular. It is about connecting with family and learning how to deal with sudden twists of fate and being true to yourself.”

“Something that is very important is that is focuses on the father and daughter relationship,” said actress Kaitlyn Karns who is playing leading lady, Alison Bechdel. “Most stories only talk about the mother and daughter aspect and talk nothing about the father.”

Tickets can be purchased online.
