Adam Driver In Talks to Join Ridley Scott's 'The Last Duel'

Academy Award nominee Adam Driver is in talks to play a role in Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel," according to a Variety exclusive.
Driver, who can be seen in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" this December, joins Scott's feature, which is yet to be greenlit by Disney and Fox.
Sources tell Variety that Ben Affleck, who originally eyed what would be Driver’s leading role, will now appear in a supporting part along with “Killing Eve” actress Jodie Comer. When news first broke that Damon and Affleck would be appearing in a film together for the first time since “Good Will Hunting,” many assumed Affleck would take on the role of Damon’s friend, though neither the studio nor reps for either actor would confirm. Insiders now confirm to Variety that Affleck will assume a supporting role instead due to scheduling conflicts with New Regency’s “Deep Water,” which he had already signed on to.
"The Last Duel" follows the betrayal narrative between two knights (Damon and Driver). It also stars "Killing Eve" star, Emmy winner Jodie Comer.
In July, news broke that Scott would helm the project, a 14th century revenge feature co-written by Affleck, Damon and Nicole Holofcener ("Can You Ever Forgive Me?"). The duo, now with Scott, is developing the film, based on the novel by Eric Jager. Scott is widely known for films including “Alien,” “Blade Runner,” “Gladiator,” “Black Hawk Down,” and “Prometheus.” He rejoins Damon, who starred in his 2015 space adventure “The Martian.”

Driver stars in "Marriage Story" with Scarlett Johansson.

Driver was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in Spike Lee's socially charged Best Picture nominated "BlacKkKlansman." He stars in Noah Baumbach's "Marriage Story" opposite Scarlett Johansson and can be seen in Scott Z. Burns' "The Report."
Scott and Kevin Walsh are producing for "The Last Duel." Scott Free and Damon and Affleck are producing under their Pearl Street banner. The film is in pre-production.
