Just three months after winning an Academy Award for his original screenplay and Best Picture nominee, "Get Out," Peele refuses to slow down. Amazon and Monkeypaw recently announced "The Hunt," a series about hunting down Nazis. They will also be working together on a documentary series called "Lorena."
In the press release about the new deal, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said:
"Jordan, Win Rosenfeld, and the Monkeypaw team represent the ideal creative collaboration as we continue to ramp up original, culturally relevant and riveting television. Our Lorena Bobbitt documentary and series order for 'The Hunt' represent just the start of what will be a prolific and exciting relationship with Monkeypaw."
Jordan Peele also said:
"I couldn’t be more excited about this new relationship with Amazon. They’ve been a fantastic partner to Monkeypaw over the last year because they’re committed to the same kind of fun and culturally-relevant television we are."
In addition to writing and directing, Peele is producing a variety of film and television projects. "The Last OG" is currently finishing its first season on TBS. He is one of the producers of Spike Lee's highly anticipated Cannes Grand Prix winner, "BlacKkKlansman."
He also recently announced his next directorial project, "Us," which is due out in 2019. Similar to "Get Out," "Us" is described as a social thriller. It will star Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss, and Winston Duke.
Amazon Studios has ramped up efforts to produce quality original film and television programming. This year, they are distributing "You Were Never Really Here," from Lynne Ramsay, as well as "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot." And they announce additional acquisitions all the time.
This summer, they will also be releasing the first season of "Jack Ryan," starring John Krasinski. The series is so highly anticipated, the company announced a second season before the first even started.
