Cannes Gives Out Their Un Certain Regard Prizes

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival is beginning to wrap up, with only a day or so to go until the complete awards are announced. However, the prizes have begun to be given out, as the Un Certain Regard section of the fest has been unveiled. Playing alongside the In Competition section at the festival, this is its own entity, with a separate jury too. That panel was headed up by Benicio del Toro, and they've revealed their prize winners. The top prize went to "Border" from Ali Abbasi, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. You'll be able to see the rest of the first Cannes award winners below. That's not all though. Sit tight, as the bigger prizes, including the Palme d'Or, are coming this weekend.

Un Certain Regard 2018 presented 18 films in competition. 6 of them were first films. The Opening film was DONBASS by Sergei Loznitsa.

Under the presidency of Benicio Del Toro (Puerto Rican-American actor), the Jury was comprised of Annemarie Jacir (Palestinian director and writer), Kantemir Balagov (Russian director), Virginie Ledoyen (French actress) and Julie Huntsinger (American executive director, Telluride Film Festival).

“We feel that out of 2000 films considered by the Festival, the 18 we saw in UN CERTAIN REGARD – from Argentina to China – were all in their own way winners. Over the past 10 days, we were extremely impressed by the high quality of the work presented, but in the end we were the most moved by the following 5 films. » The jury

Look for the Palme d'Or announcement and the rest of the Cannes awards over the weekend. It's a wide open race this year, so the winners should be an interesting bunch.
