ACCA 1991 Winners Announced - 'Silence of the Lambs' Repeats while 'JFK' goes 0 for 13

In case you missed last week's podcast, we announced the winners of the 1991 Awards Circuit Community Awards.  Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" was the big winner, repeating its Oscar wins for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Anthony Hopkins, Best Actress for Jodie Foster, and Best Adapted Screenplay.  The film also netted additional wins for Best Cast Ensemble, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing, bringing its win total to 8.

James Cameron's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" garnered the second most wins with 4 including Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Stunt Ensemble.  The animated classic "Beauty and the Beast" repeated its 2 wins for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for its title number, "Beauty and the Beast."

Other winners included John Goodman, who netted his second ACCA win for his performance in The Coen Brothers' "Barton Fink" and Juliette Lewis as the young interest to a murderer in Martin Scorsese's "Cape Fear."

Ridley Scott's "Thelma & Louise" repeated its win in Best Original Screenplay while "Barton Fink" and "Hook" picked up wins in Best Production Design and Best Costume Design respectively.

History was also made by the film-loving community as Oliver Stone's "JFK" became the biggest "ACCA loser."  The film was nominated for 13 awards resulting in zero wins, though it was a runner-up in several categories including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cast Ensemble.

The next step for the Awards Circuit community is the "Great ACCA Consistency Project," where the readers will vote on all the categories that were not available during the ACCA years that have already been covered.  More information will be available shortly about when this will take place before we move on to 1990, the year of "Dances with Wolves" and "Goodfellas."
