Christina Hodson to Write Script for 'Batgirl'

"Batgirl" is back on with a new writer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Christina Hodson will write the script, after Joss Whedon quit two months ago. Whedon left the project claiming he was unable to find the write story for Barbra Gordon/Batgirl.
The character first appeared in comics fifty years ago, and is still published today. She also appeared in the 1960s "Batman" television series. Batgirl was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane. But in 1967, a rewrite turned her into Barbra Gordon, niece of Commissioner Gordon. She appeared in several episodes of the TV series, and was reintroduced in the 1997 "Batman and Robin," played by Alicia Silverstone.
Hodson will now take over the project, which will explore why Barbra Gordon was compelled to don the cowl and fight crime. She comes fresh from the "Transformers" spin-off, "Bumblebee." Her first feature was the 2016 horror film "Shut In," which starred Naomi Watts and Charlie Heaton. Last year, she wrote "Unforgettable," the thriller that starred Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl.
Warner Bros has not announced the "Batgirl" director yet. The film is produced by Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. They have been involved with every film in the "Justice League" franchise. It is important to note that their most successful was "Wonder Woman," which is the only film in the franchise, so far, with a women in the leading role.
Also not yet known: who will play Batgirl? Many names have been tossed around. Some of the rumors include Haley Lu Richardson, Olivia Cooke, and Elle Fanning.
