Netflix announced they are renewing the comedy "One Day at a Time" for a third season.

The streaming service has ordered a thirteen episode season of 30-minute episodes, which will run in 2019.

"One Day at a Time" showcases three generations of a Cuban-American family and all of the trials that come with multi-generational cohabitation. The sitcom stars Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Todd Grinnell, Stephen Toblowsky, Isabella Gomez, and Marcel Ruiz.

Justina Machado also stars on the hit CW series "Jane the Virgin," and lends her voice to "Elena of Avalor" as Carmen. Rita Moreno won an Academy Award for "West Side Story" in 1962. She is one of only a handful of actors to have won the elusive EGOT—Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Todd Grinnell has appeared on various series including "Grace and Frankie," "The Young Pope," and "Desperate Housewives." Stephen Toblowsky is a familiar face, having appeared in many television and film roles. Some of his credits include "Groundhog Day," "The Goldbergs," and "Silicon Valley." And Isabella Gomez and Marcel Ruiz are both fairly new to the business, each having just one or two credits prior to landing a role with this stellar cast of co-stars.

The series is a reimagining of the classic sitcom by Norman Lear. The original series ran nine seasons, from 1975-1984, and told the story of a divorced mother and their wacky building super in Indianapolis. That version won several Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes for stars Valerie Bertinelli, Pat Harrington Jr, and Bonnie Franklin.

Lear serves as Executive Producer on the show, along with co-showrunners Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce. Michael Garcia and Brent Miller also produce the series through Sony Pictures Television.

While Netflix is notorious for not releasing viewing data, strong social media support suggests that "One Day at a Time" is widely popular. The first season scored one Emmy nomination for editor Patricia Barnett. Rita Moreno earned a nomination for Supporting Actress from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Fans immediately started begging for more. Season 2 was released in January. While the announcement did not come with an official release date, it is likely that season 3 will also be released in January.
