WATCH: Red Band Trailer for the 'Heathers' Reboot Is Fierce and Fabulous

The millennial Heathers are back for a new, deliciously sardonic and quick-witted round on Paramount TV. Updated for the 21st century with a more inclusive (but still rather evil) groups of Heathers, the upcoming TV series still has the overall vibe of Daniel Waters' original film with "Fargo's" approach to reboots.
The original "Heathers" black comedy, written by Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann ("American Horror Story"), followed Veronica (Winona Ryder, "Stranger Things") and her bad boy boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater, "Mr. Robot") as they dealt with high school in some...creative...ways. Original star Shannen Doherty ("90210") guest-stars on the Leslye Headland-directed pilot alongside Selma Blair ("Anger Management"), while the reboot adds a couple twists to the "Heathers" story. According to THR, the outcasts in the new reboot are now high school royalty, with Heather McNamara played by Jasmine Mathews ("Blue Bloods"), Heather Duke now the genderqueer teen named Heath played by Brendan Scannell ("Where You Are"), and Heather Chandler played by Melanie Field ("The Tap"). Newcomers James Scully and Grace Victoria Cox will be playing J.D. and Veronica.
Though the show may star some fresh faces, "Heathers" will be still the "pitch-black comedic anthology" we fell in love with. According to THR, the anthology took its cues from FX's "Fargo," featuring a new group of Heathers in modern times. The diverse cast is a pleasant update to the cult classic, featuring a genderqueer character, a plus-size character and a black character instead of the white, cis cast of the 1980s. And judging by the new trailer, "Heathers" will still have the kind of quick-witted comedy that endeared it to audiences the first time around.
"Heathers" premieres on the Paramount Network (formerly Spike TV) on March 7. Watch the trailer below.
