Critics' Choice Awards: 'The Shape of Water' Wins Big for Best Picture, Director, Production Design and Score

The winners of the Critics' Choice Awards were announced Thursday night at the 23rd annual ceremony, shining a spotlight on some of 2017's best films and TV series. Coming in with the most wins was Guillermo del Toro's "The Shape of Water," which received awards for best film, director, production design and score. "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" also won big tonight, earning awards for best acting ensemble, best actress (Frances McDormand), best supporting actor (Sam Rockwell).
"Big Little Lies" topped in the world of television with the most wins, earning awards for best limited series, best actress in a limited series/TV movie (Nicole Kidman), best supporting actor in a limited series/TV movie (Alexander Skarsgård) and best supporting actress in a limited series/TV movie (Laura Dern). Coming in close behind with three wins was "The Handmaid's Tale," winning best drama series, best actress in a drama series (Elisabeth Moss) and best supporting actress in a drama series (Ann Dowd). "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" also wowed critics at the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. and Broadcast Television Journalists Assn., winning for best comedy series and best actress in a comedy (Rachel Brosnahan).
The winners for best genre film were "Get Out," "The Big Sick" and "Wonder Woman" in the sci-fi/horror, comedy and action film categories with "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins presenting the #SeeHer award to Gal Gadot for her acting as the Amazonian princess; the award highlights "women who push boundaries and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape," according to Variety.
