Netflix Confirms Sequel to 'Bright'

Netflix confirmed there will be a sequel to their latest film, "Bright."
The streaming giant reports that the urban fantasy became the highest viewed original on its service in the first week. This includes film and television series, sequels, and additional seasons. It is also the #1 movie on Netflix in every country.
"Bright" follows two police officers in an alternate present day. Ward is a human, played by Will Smith. Jakoby is an orc, played by Joel Edgerton. The partnership is rocky, but the two are forced to work together to stop a band of fairies and protect a magic wand.
Smith and Edgerton are both confirmed to return for the sequel.
The movie also stars Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus"), Edgar Ramirez ("The Girl on the Train"), and Lucy Fry ("Wolf Creek").
"Bright" was directed by David Ayer. After writing screenplays for "U-571" and "Training Day," he moved into the director's chair. His first feature was the Christian Bale film "Harsh Times." He followed that up with "End of Watch," starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Ayer also wrote and directed the maligned DCEU film, "Suicide Squad." He will next direct "Gotham City Sirens," and is on board for the "Bright" sequel.
Screenwriter Max Landis ("Victor Frankenstein") is not returning. Just before "Bright" landed on Netflix, allegations surfaced against the scribe. There is no word on whether this news is the reason he will not be writing the next installment.
The interest around "Bright" was undoubtedly fueled by widespread critical reaction. It currently holds a 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics calling it the worst film of 2017. Audiences were not dissuaded, and have granted it an 88% audience score.
There is no expected release date yet.
