2018 Primetime Emmy Awards Dates Announced

The Television Academy and NBC have set the date for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The ceremony, which celebrates the broad spectrum of television entertainment, will air coast-to-coast on Monday, September 18, 2018 on NBC. It will broadcast from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles at 8p.m. ET/5p.m. PT. The awards show returns to Monday nights for the first time since 2014.

They have not yet announced who will host.

Last year, Stephen Colbert hosted a ceremony that saw a major shift in attitudes toward streaming services when "The Handmaid's Tale" won Outstanding Television Drama. Other recent hosts include Seth Meyers, who will host this year's Golden Globe ceremony, and Jimmy Kimmel, who returns to host the Academy Awards in March. Since NBC is broadcasting the awards, it seems likely one of their late night crew will be tapped for the job.

Ratings for the show have dipped in recent years. They enjoyed a high of 17.6 million viewers in 2013, fell off a bit in 2014, and then dropped drastically from 2015-2017. Perhaps a return to the peacock network and to Monday nights will help draw fans back in.
