Paul Thomas Anderson's previously untitled film officially has a name: "Phantom Thread." Focus Features announced the news Friday afternoon.

"Phantom Thread" has long been rumored as the name of Daniel Day-Lewis' supposed final film. Day-Lewis plays a 1950s London dressmaker whose work is commissioned by royalty and high society.

Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and directed the drama. He also serves as cinematographer. Anderson is a six-time Academy Award nominee, with screenplays for "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," and "Inherent Vice." He also received nominations for writing, directing, and best picture for the 2007 film "There Will Be Blood." He has directed performers from Tom Cruise to Phillip Seymour Hoffman to Adam Sandler.

"Phantom Thread" reunites Anderson with Daniel Day-Lewis for the first time since "There Will Be Blood." That film earned Day-Lewis his second Academy Award for Best Actor. He won again five years later for "Lincoln."

The film also stars Lesley Manville ("Maleficent"), Vicky Krieps ("The Colony"), and Camilla Rutherford ("Breathe").

"Phantom Thread" will be in theaters December 25.
