'I, Tonya' Scores Distribution Deal With Neon & 30West

A surprise hit at TIFF, dark comedy biopic "I, Tonya" landed a distribution deal with Neon and 30West, according to Deadline.
The film stars Margot Robbie as infamous Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding. In 1992, Harding landed at the center of a scandal when she was implicated in an attack on rival skater Nancy Kerrigan. "I, Tonya" takes a comedic look at Harding's rise in the skating world, and the scandal itself.
Robbie's performance has been widely praised. But Allison Janney ("Juno") has garnered even more attention for her role as LaVona Golden, Harding's mother.
Sebastian Stan ("Captain America: Civil War") stars as Jeff Gillooley, Harding's notorious ex-husband.
Awards Circuit's Shane Slater reviewed "I, Tonya" from Toronto.
The distribution deal with Neon and 30West came after three days of negotiations. Producers ultimately had to decide between a theatrical release with Neon or a streaming release via Netflix. While Netflix apparently offered more money, the producing team chose to sign with Neon.
Members of the producing team at LuckyChap Entertainment and Clubhouse Pictures said:

Distribution startup Neon has been hard at work building their filmography since opening their doors in 2016. Their first acquisition was "Where to Invade Next."
They are currently in theaters with the indie standout "Ingrid Goes West."
Neon also purchased "Borg McEnroe," a film about the legendary rivalry between tennis pros Björn Borg and John McEnroe.
Information about the film's theatrical release will be forthcoming.
