Ann Curry to Host New PBS Series 'We'll Meet Again'

Ann Curry is returning to TV for a touching PBS series, which aims to reunite friends whose lives were impacted by the biggest events of the 20th century. "We'll Meet Again" follows Curry and the show's researchers and producers as they track down long-lost friends in the hopes of a future reunion. The show will also shed a new, personal light to events like the Vietnam War, 9/11, and the 1960s civil rights movement, among other crucial moments of the 1900s.

Curry, a former NBC "Today Show" co-anchor, joined the six-part PBS series as soon as she heard the pitch, telling Variety, "I had a sense of the potential depth of the stories,” she said. “What I wasn’t prepared for is how much things that happened so long ago could rise to the surface and be so powerful.” Curry's production company partnered with Blink Films to produce the series; Simon Harries and Curry produced, with Justine Kershaw and Andra Heritage executive producing.

Details for one of the reunions has already been released, according to Variety. A Japanese-American began a search to find a kind classmate who befriended her at the beginning of WWII. The pair lost contact after Japanese-Americans were unjustly imprisoned in internment camps after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The pair's story of survival is just one example of the type of empathy Curry believes is an important message for a tumultuous 2017. Curry remarked to Variety:



“We are in a time when people actually need to hear these stories of empathy. We have forgotten some of this good stuff. What we find are the similarities, and they speak to the similarities in our human family.”


"We'll Meet Again" will air in 2018 on PBS.
