Lynette Howell Taylor Launches 51 Entertainment, Brie Larson's 'Unicorn Store' to be Inaugural Film

Indie producer Lynette Howell Taylor ("The Place Beyond the Pines") has just announced the launch of her new production company, 51 Entertainment, in an exclusive with Deadline. The company will reportedly focus on attaining equality for all in the film industry. 51 Entertainment will celebrate their launch with Brie Larson's ("Room") directorial debut, "Unicorn Store." The film exemplifies 51 Entertainment, as the film's script was written by a woman and directed by a woman, with a female-dominated crew, a female heroine, and a diverse cast.

"Unicorn Store" follows our heroine (Larson), who moves in with her parents but soon receives an intriguing invitation to a local store. The film explores the idea of maturity and adulthood. Larson, Samuel L. Jackson ("The Hateful Eight"), Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing"), and Joan Cusak ("Shameless") star in the film. Samantha McIntyre ("People of Earth") wrote the screenplay.

Taylor stressed the ideas of "equality, diversity, and inclusion" which drive 51 Entertainment in a statement to Deadline, saying:

“The name 51 is associated with the idea of majority. Women are still the majority in the United States and yet the balance is greatly tipped against us in the entertainment industry when it comes to opportunities. Part of the mission for 51 will be to promote equality, diversity and inclusion in hiring practices across all areas of film and TV, both in front of, and behind the camera, in every department. It is a not a female content company or a company focusing only on female filmmakers, instead it is a company that will aim to achieve greater balance.”

Taylor has been an incredibly successful indie producer, with over 25 films under her belt. Some of her best known films include "The Place Behind the Pines," "Blue Valentine," "The Accountant," and "Captain Fantastic." She is a previous nominee in Award Circuit's own Awards Circuit Community Awards, where she was nominated for Best Motion Picture for "Blue Valentine" in 2010.

While filming on "Unicorn Store" has wrapped, no release date has been announced.
