I know, sounds cryptic and a bit out there. So many people speak about their business in terms that just does not flow off their tongues with ease.
We often speak in a way we think people want to hear us. A bit like people only hear what they want to hear. Not good for your business if you want to be really authentic in what you do.
I have fallen into this trap many many times. A part of growing up is to find your own voice and become your own person. Business is the same. Your business is a part of you. You do your business for really personal reasons. You have a great business you run from home that reflects what you want from life, and then you go networking and suddenly you are talking all corporate or something else because you think that is the way you are supposed to sound.
Ever put a power suit on because you thought it would make people take you more seriously. Oh yes, haven't we all. And then when they did take you seriously, did you find that you did not want to work with them anyway. I have, so many times. Dressing in power suits and talking in a corporate tone is fine, if that is who you are. I would fall over all the language because I am so not corporate.
Discover your voice and tell people what you do so that you are authentic in yourself. Let people see you and if they want to work with you they will know exactly what they are getting. They will love you and the personality of your business. And if you are not for them, then don't worry. Work with people who will love you and what you do and the way you do it. Speak in your language. Find out exactly what you do and tell them with confidence and clarity.
