New Delhi: Supreme Court of India has asked all the states and union territories to implement "One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme" by July 31.

Whereas the Centre was asked to provide dry ration for free distribution to the migrant laborers till the situation of COVID-19 continues.
A bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah passed several directions on the plea of ​​three activists.
In which it was requested to direct the Centre and the states to ensure food security, cash transfer and other welfare measures for the migrant laborers.

The petition said that the migrant laborers are facing a crisis due to the imposition of curfew and lockdown in different parts of the country during the second wave of COVID-19.
The bench asked the Centre to develop a portal with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) for registration of workers in the unorganized sector by July 31 so that the benefits of welfare schemes could be passed on to them.

It also directed the states/UTs to operate community kitchens for migrant laborers till the global pandemic situation continues in the respective states.
The bench asked the Centre to continue allotting food grains to states and union territories for free distribution among migrant laborers till the pandemic situation persists.
Activists Anjali Bhardwaj, Harsh Mander and Jagdeep Chhokar had filed a petition with a request to implement welfare measures for the migrant labourers.
