Chennai: Tamil Nadu government has extended the parole period of AG Perarivalan, one of the seven convicts in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, by another month on medical grounds.

On May 19, Chief Minister MK Stalin had granted a one-month payroll period to Perarivalan, relaxing the rules.
After this, Perarivalan Puzhal came out of jail on 27 May. Perarivalan's one month payroll was due to end today.

Meanwhile, the government had requested on behalf of his mother D Arputammal to extend his normal leave by one more month on medical grounds. After which the period of payroll has been increased.
Significantly, the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government of MK Stalin came to power on May 7.
Following this, DMK's key ally MDMK leader and Rajya Sabha member Vaiko, VCK leader and Lok Sabha MP Tol Thirumavalvan demanded the release of all seven convicts in the Rajiv assassination case after serving more than 30 years of sentence.
