Lima: At least 27 people were killed and several others injured when an interprovincial bus overturned in Ayacucho, Peru. Local media gave this information in its report quoting the police.

Reportedly, the accident occurred at around 03:00 a.m. local time when a Vari Palomino company bus carrying a group of miners and their families was traveling from the Ayacucho area to Arequipa.

During this, the bus overturned uncontrollably on the Interoceanic Highway and fell into a gorge about 250 meters deep.
Rescue teams, firefighters and police officials reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
