Supreme Court asked central, where did the vaccine budget of 35000 crores be spent?
New Delhi: Supreme Court of India on Wednesday asked tough questions to the Modi government regarding Corona pandemic. Supreme Court asked where and how has the budget of Rs 35000 crores been spent for vaccination so far? Why can't the free vaccine be given to people in the age group of 18 to 44?
A special bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, LN Rao and S Ravindra Bhat also raised questions on the vaccination policy of the central government in a detailed order.
The judge said that when the Centre has made a rule to vaccinate people above 45 years of age free of cost and money is being taken to vaccinate people in the age group of 18 to 44, then in this budget people in the age group of 18 to 44 will be provided free of cost. Why can't vaccination be provided? The Supreme Court also questioned the central government about the preparedness to deal with the black fungus.
The Supreme Court said, the central government has put the responsibility of vaccination in the age group of 18 to 44 years on the governments of the states and union territories. He was asked to pay for the vaccination for this age group.
The Supreme Court rejected the central government's argument that higher prices would facilitate competition and encourage more manufacturers.
