Can water help for weight loss?
Even though scientists can not understand the real reason for this process, water consumption is associated with weight loss. Discover five possible reasons that can explain this phenomenon.
Researchers still do not know why drinking more water helps a person lose weight, but many studies show that there is a link. Hydration is essential for many factors that play a role in weight loss, including digestion and muscle function. Here are five reasons that might explain why water use helps keep you fit.
Water, a natural appetite suppressant
When the stomach feels full, it sends signals to the brain to stop eating. Water takes up space in the stomach, leading to a feeling of fullness and thus reducing the feeling of hunger. Drinking a glass of water before eating can also help reduce unnecessary snacking. Participants in a 2014 study drank 500 ml of water about 30 minutes before each meal, in addition to their regular water intake. After eight weeks, they noticed a reduction in weight, body fat and decreased appetite.
Improved calorie burning
Some research indicates that water can help burn calories. Scientists have noticed that water temporarily increases the resting energy expenditure of the body. Cold water would be particularly effective: the body spends even more energy and therefore calories to heat the liquid it digests.
Better eliminate waste
When the body is dehydrated, it can not properly dispose of its waste as urine or feces. Water helps the kidneys filter out toxins, while the body retains essential nutrients and electrolytes. When the body is dehydrated, the kidneys retain the fluid. Water also helps the body recover from digestive problems, such as diarrhea and indigestion.
Low caloric intake
It is easy to accumulate liquid calories by drinking soda, juice, sweet coffee or tea, not to mention sports drinks and alcohol. Replacing even a few high-calorie drinks each day with water or other non-calorie beverages, such as herbal teas, can have long-term beneficial effects on weight loss.
Burn fat
Without water, the body can not properly metabolize stored fats or carbohydrates. Work conducted in 2016 and cited by Medical News Today revealed that increased water consumption leads to an increase in lipolysis (fat metabolism), and a loss of fat in animals.
