Bolsonaro new decree: the Brazilians can carry a weapon

Millions of Brazilians will be able to carry a weapon in the street or at work thanks to a decree by President Jair Bolsonaro, which critics say is unconstitutional and will worsen the violence.

Elected officials, judicial officers, truck drivers, hunters, lawyers and even some journalists are among the people who can now carry a weapon, after the liberalization enshrined in a decree of the far-right president.

Jair Bolsonaro, pro-weapon candidate elected in late 2018 especially after pledging to end endemic violence in Brazil, signed this decree on Tuesday, whose full text was published later in the week.

After the signing, at a ceremony in Brasilia, the head of state, several ministers and representatives of the powerful gun lobby Congress had reproduced the iconic hand gesture of Jair Bolsonaro imitating a gun...........
