A brother of Hassan Rohani convicted of corruption

A brother of Iranian President Hassan Rohani has been sentenced to prison for corruption, the official news agency Irna reported on Saturday.

Hossein Fereydoun "has been found not guilty of certain charges, but has been sentenced to prison for others," she said, citing an Iranian judicial official named Hamidreza Hosseini. The length of the sentence, which he says can be challenged on appeal, is unknown.

The trial of Hossein Fereydoun, who was tried alongside six other defendants, opened in February. Arrested in 2017, he was released on parole.
