Argentina : Demonstration against Mauricio Macri austerity measures

Several thousand people protested Thursday in the center of the Argentina capital Buenos Aires to protest against rising prices for electricity and public transport as part of the austerity measures taken by the government of President Mauricio Macri.

Mauricio Macri, which last June reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a $ 50 billion assistance, pledged to the IMF to further reductions in spending and increases in taxes to reduce the primary budget deficit to zero this year.

The Argentina government has thus greatly reduced public aid, leading in particular to an increase in the prices of electricity and gas.
