Honduras plans to open embassy in Jerusalem

Honduras will begin talks with Israel on talks with the United States to open an embassy in Jerusalem, the three countries said on Tuesday, a move aimed at strengthening the political ties between Honduras and Israel.

The announcement came a little over a year after US President Donald Trump upset the line his predecessors had been following for decades, saying the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Donald Trump's initiative, which provoked strong criticism from the international community, was then supported by Guatemala and Honduras, two Central American countries receiving substantial American aid.
