NATO accuses Russia of violating NIF nuclear treaty

NATO on Tuesday accused Russia of violating the provisions of the 1987 Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty to rid Europe of land-based nuclear missiles.

"Allies have concluded that Russia has developed and deployed a missile system, Novator 9M729, which violates the FNI Treaty and poses a significant threat to Euro-Atlantic security," say the foreign ministers of the EU's member states. Atlantic Alliance in a statement issued after a meeting in Brussels.

NATO members say they are backing accusations by the United States, whose President Donald Trump announced in October that he would denounce the treaty concluded by Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
