JALALABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Gunmen attacked a midwifery school in Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, on Saturday and clashed with Afghan security forces for several hours, killing three people.
One of the attackers died at the beginning of the operation after operating his explosive belt. Another defended himself for several hours before being killed, a spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province said.
A motorist and two members of the security forces were killed and seven people were injured. A total of 63 people, mostly women, were evacuated from the midwifery school building.
No claims have been made for the moment, but in July, two attacks in Jalalabad were claimed by the jihadists of the Islamic State (IS) group.
