Major Truck Stop Chain Rewards Programs: AMBEST Rewards With AMBUCK$

Major Truck Stop Chain Rewards Programs: AMBEST Rewards With AMBUCK$
by PD McCloud

In each of part of this 5-part series we'll examine one of the 4 largest truck stop driver reward programs, AMBEST, TA/Petro, Pilot/Flying J, and Loves Travel Stop. In the mean time, feel free to cast your vote on who you think has the best driver rewards program.

There are a lot of truck stops throughout the country and most have some sort of rewards program for drivers. Though all have their own perks and benefits, it's probably agreed that the four majors are the most successful in terms of overall fuel sales and store amenities for drivers. Like most of you, I also have a preferred truck stop that I frequent. However, for this series, I'm going to try to take myself out of the driver's seat and look at each as unbiased as I possibly can. In Part 5, we'll combine the information, the facts and the results of the poll to hopefully come to a conclusion as to which truck stop really does have the best drivers reward program.

Founded in 1988, AMBEST is a Member-owned, nationwide network of independent truck stops and service centers. Unlike big Wall Street companies, AMBEST locations are family owned business places where you're likely to find the owner with his or her sleeves rolled up ready to take care of you anyway they can.

AMBUCK$, first introduced by AMBEST in 1994, is a rewards program offered to professional drivers FREE of charge. Drivers earn points worth a penny a gallon by swiping their AMBUCK$ card at the pump or fuel desk when making a diesel purchase at any of the AMBEST locations nationwide. Since the program's inception, the company has issued billions of AMBUCK$ points to drivers, plus we have given away millions of points, cash and other prizes in random weekly and grand prizes.

AMBUCK$ cardholders earn one FREE shower credit for every minimum 75 gallon purchase. The shower credit is automatically loaded on your card and can be used in any AMBEST location nationwide. Shower credits expire after 7 days from the time it is credited to the card. Points can be earned with select purchases at participating AMBEST Service Centers.

As mentioned above, most of the truck stops in the AMBEST network are privately owned and operated. However there are a few that are owned by a corporation and provide amenities to drivers that the smaller ones can't afford to offer. In general though, AMBEST truck stops tend to provide more personal service to its customers. Employees tend to be more polite and the nuances of each truck stop has its own sense of comfortability.

Fuel availability is usually not a problem, though in areas that experience major catastrophes such as the recent hurricanes that hit Florida and Texas, supplies tend to run out more quickly and replenishment of the truck stops tanks is more problematic as most buy their fuel from area providers. Fuel prices tend to be lower than the other 3 major chains though, and that's a good thing. Lower pricing only adds to the benefits drivers receive.

In Part 2, we'll examine the TA/Petro chain of truck stops and the rewards program they offer. Don't forget to cast your vote, above for the truck stop you feel has the best rewards program for drivers.
