Tireless Highways Heroes: Serving Up America's Holiday Cheer

Every year there are those who don't get to go home for the holidays. Hospital staff, law enforcement, firefighters, senior care center employees and truck drivers. All are serving those of us who do spend time with their families during holidays with a public service, keeping us healthy, safe and in supply of the things we want or need to celebrate the season.

At any given time throughout the year, there are nearly 3.5 million truck drivers on the highway picking up or delivering supplies to our stores & hospitals. But during the holidays only about 85 percent of those drivers actually get to go home to celebrate with their families. Instead, they are making sure that the supply chain that drives America is not interrupted. This year is no different. In millions of homes across our country this Thanksgiving, there will be an empty seat at the table.

Every truck driver that works through the holiday(s) are the seasons highway hero. They are sacrificing their time with family and friends to serve up America with reasons to have holiday cheer. It matters not whether they choose to stay out working, or it's required by the company they work for, they are making a sacrifice for the people of our nation.

As we sit at home this year, celebrating our holiday cheer, let's not forget the millions of Americans who can't be home for that special occasion where most of us will be able to be cheerful & thankful for what we have. Remember to be thankful for our dedicated professionals who keep us safe, healthy and in supply. Keep them all in our thoughts and prayers for a safe season. And when you see one of these highway heroes, spread with them the holiday cheer you feel with a thank you.
