The Carpetstore is stocking exciting new ranges of eco-friendly carpets and underlay made from fishing nets and plastics
‘The carpet is beautiful. The quality is just amazing – I’d have it in my home without a moment’s hesitation.’ When Clay Miller sings the praises of a new brand, it’s worth taking note. Clay and his brother Joe have been running The Carpetstore for over 25 years and there’s precious little they don’t know about carpets and flooring.
Even more unusually, the carpet that has so impressed Clay boasts impeccable green credentials. ’The yarn is spun from abandoned fishing nets. According to the manufacturer, nets comprise one-tenth of marine litter and trap tens of thousands of sea creatures every year,’ explains Clay. ‘The carpet has been a big hit in the USA and we’re the only stockists in West London. It comes in two different qualities: a twist pile for stairs, living rooms and other heavy wear areas and a Saxony, which is a luxurious deep pile for bedrooms.’
That’s not the only innovative eco-friendly product that the Carpetstore is carrying this autumn. ‘We were approached by the company shooting George Clarke’s new TV programme and asked if we’d be filmed fitting an underlay that is recycled from plastic waste. Of course, we said yes! Again, it’s excellent – really thick and effective.’
Customers at The Carpetstore are spoilt for choice. Clay and Joe have a huge selection of contemporary and classic designs for all budgets as well as bespoke rugs, stair runners and a wide range of vinyl, tile and laminate flooring. One thing is certain, whether it’s a carpet, rug or runner, there won’t be an issue with moths. ‘Everything here is moth-treated,’ says Clay. ‘A chemical is actually put on the yarn as it is spun, so, it’s built into the carpet rather than just being sprayed on top. That works nicely.’
With their own experienced fitters, The Carpetstore will also lay hardboard, ply and latex sub-floors, trim doors and, whether you’re investing in carpet or flooring, Clay and Joe and their friendly team will provide straightforward advice and help you come to the best decision.
