You most probably won’t see Marie Mouroum's face in the new James Bond movie, but she is an essential part of the film. Marie is Lashana Lynch’s stunt double. When action scenes get too risky for actresses, Marie steps in. She is one of the most successful stunt women in the world. Before Marie got to become part of the acclaimed James Bond movie, she faced multiple struggles. Her claim to fame was anything but easy.
Marie Mouroum grew up in East Berlin. Her mom was worried about her and her brother facing racist attacks and motivated them to start practicing martial arts. Marie immediately fell in love with the sport. Her first big idol was Jackie Chan, whom she got to meet during a performance in Berlin. To this day, Marie cherishes the photo she took back then as one of her most precious photographs.
When she started out, she had no contacts in the industry and there were few parts that she would have been able to double. Marie never gave up.
Marie landed one of her first Hollywood productions right out of school, when she got to stunt double Halle Berry in Cloud Atlas. Her role behind the king in Black Panther was Marie’s big break. Since then, the film industry also changed and there are more roles for her in movies.
One of her career highlights was definitely filming James Bond: No Time to Die. Marie spent eight months on set and thoroughly enjoyed being in Jamaica by the beach.
Marie never dared to dream of a role like this when she first started out and has to pinch herself every now and then to realize that she really is living her dream.
