Nokomis Chamber donates to library

NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce met on May 11 at Demi's Diner with a limited agenda.

Jim Rupert, representing the Nokomis Public Library, presented a request for $5,000. The funds would help complete several aspects of the new public library. This includes any remaining remodeling and refurbishing, as well as the move itself to the former Masonic Lodge.

Rupert stated that the new building is roughly three times larger than its current site. Among the needed changes is to make the bathrooms ADA-compliant. Several other requirements are contributing to the costliness of the project.

Minutes from the March annual business meeting and banquet were approved.

Treasurer Ed Chausse would report a checking balance of $1,023.16, a certificate of deposit for the Nokomis Bicentennial for $2,715.76, and a certificate of deposit for the mine fund for $46,280.36.

All reports would indicate that the spring citywide rummage sales were a success.

Also noted was the Nokomis Homecoming celebration, which will be July 7-9 at Nokomis Memorial Park.

The request for $5,000 would earn approval by the membership in attendance. This will be pending a withdrawal from the mine fund. This will include the donation and adding $2,000 to the checking account. The Bicentennial CD will also be cashed in with the intent to reinvest in a new CD at a higher interest rate. The $2,000 deposit to checking will help defray any other costs the Chamber accrues.

The next Chamber meeting will be on July 13 at noon in the rear banquet room of Demi's Diner.
