A chess prodigy, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is the fifth-youngest person ever who has achieved the title of Grandmaster, behind the chess players Abhimanyu Mishra, Sergey Karjakin, Gukesh D, and Javokhir Sindarov. His achievements are massive at the young age of 16 with him recently defeating Magnus Carlsen in the Airthings Masters 2022.

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is an Indian professional chess grandmaster and widely known as one of the youngest professional chess players. Ramesh is the younger sibling of Vaishali Rameshbabu. His sister is also a chess enthusiast. 



He is in the 10th standard in a local school in Chennai and Ramesh is good at academics as well. His father’s name is Rameshbabu and he supports him the most during his chess games. His mother's name is Nagalakshmi.



 His elder sister R. Vaishali happens to be a two-time youth chess champion is a Woman International Master. His coach is Ramachandran Ramesh, an Indian chess grandmaster from Chennai who won the 2002 British Championship and 2007 Commonwealth Championship and he runs the chess gurukul along with wife, WGM Aarthie Ramaswamy where Rameshbabu takes training at.



While the exact IQ of Rameshbabu is unknown, he is said to have an extremely high one with him learning chess at the age of 5 itself. The 16 year old has a peak ranking of 2617 as of 2022 and FIDE ranking of 2612.



Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa Chess Career

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa achieved the World Youth Chess Championships Under-8 title in year 2013. Later he earned the title of the FIDE Master at the age of 7 years. Ramesh Babu won an Under-10 title in 2015.



In the year 2016, Ramesh Praggnanandhaa became one of the youngest international masters in entire chess history. In July 2019 Ramesh Babu Praggnanandhaa achieved the Xtracon Chess Open in Denmark by scoring 8½/10 points, +7–0=3.



On the 12th of October in year 2019, he achieved the World Youth Championships in the Under-18 section with a score of 9/11. In December 2019, Ramesh became one of the second-youngest ones who has achieved a rating of 2600, he did this at the age of 14 years.



Praggnanandhaa participated in the Chess World Cup in 2021. He played in the Master's section of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in the year 2022. After winning the games against Andrey Esipenko, Vidit Gujrathi, and Nils Grandelius, he completed at 12th place with a final score of 5½.
