Jan Ludwig is a freelance journalist and author based in Berlin. He writes for major German media outlets such as the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the German Press Agency (dpa), DIE ZEIT and SPIEGEL ONLINE. Specialized in the Middle East, history, and everything related to propaganda, he has reported from France, Poland, Israel and the Palestinian territories, the United States, and Lebanon. He graduated from the Henri Nannen School for Journalism in Hamburg and holds degrees in Philosophy and in History from the Dresden University of Technology.
In 2014, he received a scholarship from both the Rudolf Augstein Stiftung (associated with DER SPIEGEL) and the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation. In 2015, together with Alexandra Rojkov, he was awarded the CNN Journalist Award 2015 for outstanding foreign reporting, and he was shortlisted for the Ernst Cramer Award for excellent Israel-related reporting. His book "Populismus" which aims to explain populism to a young audience appeared in 2017 (Carlsen Verlag).
