A-Synth Fest 2016

A-Synth Fest 2016

A-Synth Fest 2016 is an annual festival dedicated to analog sounds and related arts.

This year with a focus on UK label Ghost Box Records, including film, live set, dj sets and visuals.

Ghost Box is a record label established in London in 2004 by producer, Jim Jupp and music industry graphic designer, Julian House. It was originally created as an outlet for their own musical experiments with the idea that each release’s packaging would display a similar design.

Sensibility and both music and design would allude to House and Jupp’s shared imaginary landscape; a very British parallel world of TV soundtracks, 60s and 70s horror movies, vintage electronic music, folk song, English psychedelia, supernatural stories and folklore.

Ghost Box records and CDs were always intended to look and sound like artefacts from a parallel world, simultaneously mundane and beautiful but somehow “wrong”.

The label has continued to grow and develop since then albeit with a deliberately small roster of artists, working in differing styles but sharing the same sensibilities and all fitting in with Ghost Box’s fictional world. Ghost Box’s key artists include House’s own The Focus Group and Jupp’s Belbury Poly and also The Advisory Circle, Pye Corner Audio, Hintermass and Roj.

More recently these artists have been collaborating with guests on a series of Ghost Box singles and EPs. Guest artists to date include Broadcast, John Foxx, Sean O’Hagan (High Llamas), Jonny Trunk, Beautify Junkyards, Moon Wiring Club, Steve Moore and Cavern of Anti-Matter.

In addition to this label, there will be other musicians and artists from across the world displaying their experimental talents across the two days in St. Gallen’s Palace and Grabenhalle music venues.
