I wish I could manage to be a late riser on the weekends, sipping coffee in bed all morning while browsing the newspaper. However, there are two problems to my imaginary ideally weekend: I usually wake up at the same time my alarm clock rings during weekdays - without actually setting an alarm. And furthermore: how to get coffee and newspaper into the bed without leaving the bed?
Luckily, Standl 20 exists in my life and prevents any potentially grumpy Saturday morning mood for my part. So here's my guide to a guaranteed Saturday morning perfection for early birds and coffee lovers:
Munich's streets might be still sleepy, but if the sky is fresh and bright, my rattly vintage bicycle knows its way to a place where the love for good coffee and refined tastes in hot beverages are brought to perfection: Standl 20, located in a small market booth, right in the middle of Munich's Elisabethmarkt (a traditional market for greens, cheese, bread and much more - named after the empress Sisi herself), which charms me with its authenticity every time I hop off my bike here. The market stalls are small actual houses, creating the impression that I accidentally landed in the Bavarian countryside. And while the Viktualienmarkt has the average Starbucks branch only, the true treasure of the Elisabethmarkt is Standl 20.
With a hand brewed coffee, a cinnamon bun and the latest newspaper, I settle down in a canvas chair to while away the day. Saturday morning perfection? Get it here!
