Conquering fashion’s frontier

We all know denim started as the humble fabric of choice for workers of the new frontier and that today it has become one of fashions’ most beloved materials. The Museum at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) currently pays homage to the fabric staple with its exhibition “Denim: Fashion’s Frontier” which started in December 2015 and runs all through May 7, 2016. Denim, in the 50s a sign of rebellion, now interpreted into luxury pieces and deconstructed into garments that can be considered art. The exhibition lets visitors trace back the steps of denim and presents the importance of the fabric for society throughout history. From work wear to haute couture, Ralph Lauren to Dries van Noten, the display even showcases objects that have never been on view before.
