WATCH: Chilling First Trailer Released For Horror 'The Turning,' From Floria Sigismondi

Universal Pictures have released the first trailer for "The Turning," a horror film directed by Floria Sigismondi. The film stars Brooklynn Prince ("The Florida Project"), Finn Wolfhard ("It Chapter Two"), Mackenzie Davis ("Terminator: Dark Fate") and Joely Richardson ("Red Sparrow").
The Turning takes us to a mysterious estate in the Maine countryside, where newly appointed nanny Kate is charged with the care of two disturbed orphans, Flora and Miles. Quickly though, she discovers that both the children and the house are harboring dark secrets and things may not be as they appear.
Sigismondi's new haunted house feature is heavily inspired by Henry James’ novel, "The Turn of the Screw." The screenplay is written by Carey W. Hayes and Chad Hayes.
In an article by Entertainment Weekly, Sigismondi touched on the influences she drew from Jack Clayton's adaptation of James' novella, 1961's "The Innocents":
“I studied what worked in that film, and the atmosphere it created, and how the house became a character, and what we saw and didn’t see,” says Sigismondi. “I also loved how that film made it about the nanny and not just about the things that were happening in the house. So, I really drew upon those things, and modernized it, and made it my own.”
Sigismondi's feature directorial debut came with 2010's "The Runaways," starring Kristen Stewart. She also has an extensive background directing music videos and shorts. Sigismondi also directed two episodes of Hulu's original series, "The Handmaid's Tale." "The Turning" teams her up rising star Brooklynn Prince and Finn Wolfhard as the tale's two orphans in the care of Davis' character.
"The Turning" is produced by Scott Bernstein ("Straight Outta Compton," "Ride Along 2") and Roy Lee ("It," "The Lego Movie"). Universal Pictures will be distributing the film domestically January 24.
