Montgomery heading to Minnesota United in trade deal
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota United acquired Callum Montgomery over the weekend in a deal with FC Dallas.
A fourth-round MLS SuperDraft pick is going to Dallas in exchange for the 23-year-old defender. Additionally, FC Dallas will receive $50,000 in general allocation funds. This is conditional on Montgomery reaching certain performance incentives.
Montgomery was drafted by Dallas in 2019 out of UNC-Charlotte. He would score 11 goals in 73 appearances during his tenure from 2015 until 2018. Additionally, he would earn United Soccer Coaches honors as a first-team All-American. He would also receive Defender of the Year honors in 2018 from Conference USA.
In his tenure in Dallas, Montgomery would never make a first-team appearance for the club. He would make 22 appearances and scored three goals.
Montgomery was active more in helping Dallas' farm team in USL League One, North Texas SC. He would be instrumental in the club winning the league championship in 2019.
He would also make nine appearances via a loan in the USL Championship with San Antonio FC earlier this year. As a result, he would score two goals during his time there.
